GIVEAWAY: Edgar Allen Poe Adult Colouring Book, by Odessa Begay

Fall is approaching, which means longer nights, chillier days, and pumpkin spice everything. Also, Halloween! And thanks to the wonderful people at Lark Crafts, I’m thrilled to be able to announce a giveaway for a spookyscary macabre colouring book from Odessa Begay!

It’s filled with images inspired by Poe’s stories and poems, and it looks amazing!

Want to win a copy? All you have to do is leave a comment on this post, telling me your favourite spooky tale. Maybe it’s a horror novel, maybe it’s one of those stories you heard around the campfire as a kid. Either way, I want to know about it!

Contest is open to residents of the US and Canada only (sorry, my non-North American friends…), and all submissions must be received by 11:59 PM PST on Sunday September 11, 2016. Make sure I have a way to contact you (Twitter, Facebook, email address, link to your blog, etc) so that if you’re chosen as a winner, I can let you know. Winners must be willing to provide their mailing address so that I can pass it on to the publisher for the purposes of this contest.

The SPFBO StoryBundle!

If you haven’t heard of StoryBundle before, then think of it like the Humble Bundle: pay what you want for a set of books. Pay a little bit more for access to more books. It’s a great deal, and a portion of what you pay can go to charity.

And now StoryBundle is getting on board with the Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off to bring you all 10 of the finalists from last year’s challenge!

spfbo

The Self-Published Fantasy Blog-off Bundle is a unique bundle, chosen by reviewers who took part in the first Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off organized by Mark Lawrence. Each reviewer received over twenty-five books and a mission: Choose one. This bundle contains the books those reviewers put at the very top of their list.

“Ten fine bloggers and blog-sites spent a year considering almost three hundred self-published fantasy books to bring you their ten favorites. It’s hard to imagine you won’t find some gems among them.” — Mark Lawrence

So if you haven’t checked out these books yet, now’s your chance to get all 10 of them for only $15, to support the authors, and to see what we were all making such a fuss over!

But wait, it gets even better! If you’re anything like me, you’re on a limited budget, and might not be able to afford the $15 by the time the promotion ends. I feel your pain, friend, and that’s exactly why I’m fortunate enough to have a code for one of the Bundles, to give away to one lucky reader!

Just leave a comment on this post telling me which one of the SPFBO finalists caught your attention the most, and that’s all you have to do to enter!

Contest closes at 11:59 PM PST on Sunday April 24, 2016. Get those comments in while you can!

Announcing a writing contest for SFF micro fiction

Amid the Imaginary is holding a contest for SFF-related micro fiction, 500 words or less, geared to self-published authors.

Why am I announcing this here? Because if you hop on over to the page and scroll to the bottom to the list of judges, you might just see a familiar name in the mix.

Also because I’m participating in the Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off, and I know that has gained me a few self-published authors as regular or semi-regular readers of my blog, and I figured there’d be a few people reading this that may want to get their submission in before the deadline.

Guidelines:

1. Must have at least one self-published book (please provide a link in your e-mail)

2. Must be a subscriber to the Amid the Imaginary newsletter published through Fine Fables Press

3. Story must be 500 words or less and in one of the genres of the blog (Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Paranormal, Dystopian, Steampunk)

4. One entry per person and once submitted the entrant cannot resubmit

5. Story format can be in PDF or Word

DEADLINE to submit: Noon, 12:00 pm (U.S. Central Standard Time) on Saturday, August 22nd. No exceptions.

Email your submission to finefablespress@gmail.com, Subject: Writing Contest Submission

A full list of rules and prizes can be seen on Amid the Imaginary, so head on over and see if this contest is one you’d be interested in submitting something to.

GIVEAWAY: Pathfinder Tales: Liar’s Island, by Tim Pratt

It’s been a while since I last hosted a giveaway here, so I’m glad to say that the dry spell is broken! Thanks to the good people at Tor Books, I have a copy of Tim Pratt’s upcoming Pathfinder Tales: Liar’s Island up for grabs to one lucky US or Canadian winner!

Rodrick is a con man as charming as he is cunning. Hrym is a talking sword of magical ice, with the soul and spells of an ancient dragon. Together, the two travel the world, parting the gullible from their gold and freezing their enemies in their tracks. But when the two get summoned to the mysterious island of Jalmeray by a king with genies and elementals at his command, they’ll need all their wits and charm if they’re going to escape with the greatest prize of all-their lives.

From Hugo Award winner Tim Pratt comes a tale of magic, assassination, monsters, and cheerful larceny, in Pathfinder Tales: Liar’s Island, set in the award-winning world of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

So what do you have to do to enter for a chance to win? Just comment on this post, telling me what character class you prefer to play as in fantasy RPGs. Or if you don’t play any, tell me what class would you’d prefer to be if you did play?

GIVEAWAY: A Murder of Mages, by Marshall Ryan Maresca

Marshall Ryan Maresca’s The Thorn of Dentonhill was a really entertaining fantasy novel, and so it’s with great pleasure that I’m pleased to announce a giveaway for his upcoming novel, A Murder of Mages, courtesy of Daw!

A Murder of Mages marks the debut of Marshall Ryan Maresca’s novels of The Maradaine Constabulary, his second series set amid the bustling streets and crime-ridden districts of the exotic city called Maradaine. A Murder of Mages introduces us to this spellbinding port city as seen through the eyes of the people who strive to maintain law and order, the hardworking men and women of the Maradaine Constabulary.

Satrine Rainey—former street rat, ex-spy, mother of two, and wife to a Constabulary Inspector who lies on the edge of death, injured in the line of duty—has been forced to fake her way into the post of Constabulary Inspector to support her family.

Minox Welling is a brilliant, unorthodox Inspector and an Uncircled mage—almost a crime in itself. Nicknamed “the jinx” because of the misfortunes that seem to befall anyone around him, Minox has been partnered with Satrine because no one else will work with either of them.

Their first case together—the ritual murder of a Circled mage— sends Satrine back to the streets she grew up on and brings Minox face-to-face with mage politics he’s desperate to avoid. As the body count rises, Satrine and Minox must race to catch the killer before their own secrets are exposed and they, too, become targets.

Birthday giveaway!

Today is my 31st birthday!

I like to celebrate my birthdays around here by holding giveaways. This year, sadly, I can’t give away any books. But I can give away one of my favourite bookmarks instead!

SAM_1696-2 SAM_1695-2I fell in love with kogin embroidery, and even though it’s not usually done in two colours like this, I really love the way it looks. Can’t beat purple and gold! The pictures show both sides of the bookmark, so it’s completely reversible, and about 9 inches long including the fringe.

So yes, I’m giving away this bookmark! Because I love you guys and I want to share my love of all things bookish and embroidered!

  • Giveaway is open internationally, so everyone can enter!
  • Must provide mailing address if chosen as a winner, which will not be retained by me once I’ve sent the bookmark
